 Wide Dynamic Range Camera Wide Dynamic Range Security CamerasUsing the ChipWrights architecture VICI Development designed a modular system to fit in a standard 50 mm security camera housing.
This modular system allows for a wide variety of sensors to be used. In this case the Kodak 9618 was chosen for its wide dynamic range. This creates a problem in how you display a range of input values, that is greater than, the display devices range of output values. The answer is to use a fully programmable image pipeline, multiple algorithms can be used to comand (compress dynamic range) the 12 to 14 bit data so it can be displayed on a standard NTSC or PAL television.
The other ability of this modular design is to expand the number of DSP's in the system. This allows for adding features and performance capabilities to fit any application. VICI Development is making the design available as complete units, custom implementations, and on a license basis.
