CHIPWRIGHTS ANNOUNCES DIGITAL CAMERA REFERENCE DESIGN

September 8, 2003
Programmability with Visual Image Signal Processing Maximizes Image Quality

NEWTON, Mass, September 8, 2003 – ChipWrights, Inc., the leader in digital signal processing (DSP) technology for mobile imaging applications, today announced a reference design for digital cameras that supports both still and video functionality. This reference design gives manufacturers a path for quick time-to- market for state-of-the-art solid-state digital cameras with the latest features.

This camera reference design comprises choice of sensor with image processing and power boards. The sensor board supports multiple sensor drivers including
Motorola/Kodak 1.3 Mega Pixel CMOS, Omnivision 2 and 3 Mega Pixel CMOS, Sony 4.1 Mega Pixel CCD sensors and many others. The image processing board includes ChipWrights’ CW4511 visual signal processor which supports JPEG compression at more than 15 Mpixels/sec., MPEG-4 CIF at 30 fps, and MPEG-4 VGA at 10-15 fps. The power board supports Secure Digital or CompactFlash.
Included software provides proprietary algorithms enable image processing functions such as color filter array (CFA), white clipping, color correction, gamma correction, RGB to YCC conversion, edge enhancement, and compression encoding and decoding to name a few. The flexibility offered by this programmable solution, along with field upgradability allows for an extended product lifecyle.
